What I Do
You may want to make a lifestyle, career or relationship change. Or simply make peace with situations or people you cannot control. During these times of change and uncertainty the ability to respond rather than react, to remain flexible, and to strengthen your relationship to your Self are key to overall wellness. I partner with individuals age 18+ to help you put into practice the attitudes and skills you need to restore balance in your life. If you are living with anxiety, depression, a physical health issue, or the effects of trauma, compassionate support can help you relate more kindly to these conditions, and enjoy a greater sense of well-being. And if you are a newer therapist--or in need of renewing your passion for this field--our work together can help you thrive once again. What to Expect Our work together can be brief and solution focused or longer term. I am trained in a range evidence based approaches to fit individuals' unique learning styles. All I ask is that you bring an open mind and heart. How to schedule an appointment My hours are flexible and by appointment. I offer services both face to face and via secure Teletherapy. Contact me to confidentially discuss your needs and goals, and to schedule a time to meet. Most insurance accepted. Why I Do this Work I am a lifelong learner who believes in the value of ongoing personal growth and living as consciously as possible--recognizing that this requires courage, patience, consistent intention and practice. My mother was a therapist. Her dedication to this work inspired me to enter the field, and the rewards I experience working with individuals every day keeps me engaged and energized. My Experience I have had the privilege of directing community based mental health services, working within state government and education, and leading programs within large corporations, hospitals, Employee Assistance Programs and for non-profits. You may remember me as a Counselor Educator. For years I taught and provided clinical supervision to counseling students. As a result I have a broad set of skills and knowledge of community resources I am eager to share. A desire to work holistically led me to advanced training in EMDR. It is an accelerated approach to address and reduce the effects of adverse, overwhelming life events. It is my honor to work with Maine's Deaf community as I have for many years, appreciating members' rich culture and language. I enjoy working with individuals with a broad range abilities, disabilities, and diverse backgrounds. Each person is unique and "one size does not fit all." For that reason I offer a range of approaches including Cognitive Behavioral therapies, brief solution focused counseling, mindfulness based techniques, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and longer term Jungian-informed psychotherapy, as a way to make meaning of our life stories and experiences. I look forward to working together! Lori |
