What I Do
You may want to make a lifestyle, career or relationship change. Or simply make peace with situations or people you cannot control.
During these times of rapid change and uncertainty the ability to respond rather than react, to remain flexible, and to manage your response to stress are critical to overall wellness. I partner with individuals age 18+ to help you learn and put into practice the attitudes and skills you need to succeed.
If you are living with anxiety or depression, an illness or chronic health condition, or the effects of traumatic events,
expert support and practical coping strategies can help you feel more in charge, and enjoy a greater sense of well-being.
I believe freedom comes from "moving past your past", learning how to make choices that best align with your personal values, and practicing more effective ways of relating to your emotions and to those around you.
What to Expect
Our work together can be brief and solution focused or longer term. I am trained in evidence based approaches targeted to individuals' unique goals and learning styles.
How to schedule an appointment
My hours are flexible and by appointment. I offer services both face to face and via secure Teletherapy. Call, text or email me to arrange a time to confidentially discuss your needs and goals, and to schedule a time to meet.
I accept most insurances and am a contracted vendor for the state of Maine.
Why I Do this Work
I believe in the value of ongoing personal growth and living as consciously as possible--recognizing that this requires courage, patience, consistent intention and practice.
My mother was a therapist. Her dedication to this work inspired me to enter the field, and the rewards I experience working with individuals every day keeps me engaged and energized.
I have had the privilege of directing community based mental health services, working within state government and education, and leading programs within large corporations, hospitals, Employee Assistance Programs and for non-profits.
On a national level I have led services for individuals and families. I have also enjoyed over 16 years as an instructor of graduate level counseling students at USM. I have a broad set of skills and knowledge of resources to share.
I began my career in human services in my 20's as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for adults and adolescents with a broad range of abilities and disabilities. I later acquired my clinical professional mental health training and advanced training in EMDR--an accelerated approach to addressing and reducing the effects of adverse, overwhelming life events.
I am honored to have worked with members of Maine's Deaf community for many years, and enjoy working with individuals with a broad range abilities and disabilities--including conditions that are congenital or acquired, temporary or lifelong--who want to live as fully and independently as possible.
Each person is unique and "one size does not fit all." For that reason I offer a range of approaches including Cognitive Behavioral therapies, brief solution focused counseling, mindfulness based techniques, accelerated results to "move past your past" via EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and longer term Jungian-informed psychotherapy.
I look forward to working together!
